Artist Statement

Moment of reflection, representation of blindness, representation of deafness, literal darkness, absence of space, a beginning, an ending, a transition, a moment of visual silence, an error, as an opposition to whiteness, as an absence of color, avoidance of meaning, a clean start to a definition, to grab attention, to ask

“are you ready to give me your attention”.

These are examples for possible meanings of a black screen; A black screen can say a lot.

We are hybrid creations, not as a result, but as a process.

Who I was and what I have done is not who I am. Who I am now is fueled by where I am going, yet the “was” always comes through unsolicited in the process of being now. Our existence on a fundamental level is made up of (was-am-will be) at the same time, yet each phase exists in a different form in a different world.

I exist in hybridity. I exist in opposition.

I exist in the same way a black screen says something.
