Date: Thursday 21 Nov, 2019 - Saturday 23 Nov, 2019
Time: 02:00 pm - 09:00 pm
Venue: Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Sharjah, United Arab Emirates
Colour Bar is an exhibition that places in proximity bits of creative minds from the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, channeled together through a showcase that is dedicated to feature time-based media art.
The exhibition seeks to address a number of questions: how is social media changing our art practice and experience? Are artists making art for likes or art they like? Is being in a direct and instant conversation with the audience effecting the work being produced? How different is a gallery audience compared to a cyber-audience?
The artists were invited to reevaluate and reiterate their current practice in a body of work they have previously created, which happens to coexist in the past in both physical and virtual forms.
Year of Tolerance
Digital Art has expanded and redefined our understanding of contemporary art in many ways and the artists of this exhibition give an exemplary insight into their individual takes on the subject. Coming from both the UAE and Saudi Arabia, the artists are going beyond country boundaries in their works by engaging with the international phenomenon of social media and addressing its power of communication in their pieces.
Through this participation in Abu Dhabi Art, and with the theme of “Year of Tolerance”, we would like to showcase artists from different nationalities working together on the same idea, as they are all being effected by the changes happening in the in terms of heading digital. We would like to celebrate the diversity, and how social media opened the doors for more fluid communication, and different interpretations on artworks being exhibited in a physical space, and also digital platforms.
