In light of the holy month of Ramadan, Maraya Art Centre has teamed up with the Dubai International Film Festival to bring you a selection of films that were produced in the U.A.E. and Kuwait, and contain themes that reflect the traditions of Ramadan.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with the film directors.
Al Jaara (The Neighbour)

Sarah moves to Dubai for a new job and a fresh start, leaving behind a tragedy that has scarred her for life. She finds herself feeling lonely until she receives a visit from her neighbour, an old Emirati woman who doesn't understand a word she says.

Al Lailah is set in the vibrant city of Dubai, capturing its pulsating spirit, identity and simplicity. It focuses on one Emirati family as they prepare for the children’s festival, Hag Al Lailah, and explores their joys and sorrows.
Al Zooliyyah (The Carpet)
Kuwait / 2014 / 16 minutes
Director: Sadeq Behbehani
This film is set in Kuwait in the 1950’s, in the early days of the discovery of oil. Hammoud’s colleagues from the carpet shop he works in steal the carpet that was used at the inauguration of the first petrol station in Kuwait. Following their example, Hammoud also steals a carpet, but faces a great deal of inner turmoil.
This event is free of admission and the films require parental guidance for children.
