Claymation is one of many forms of stop motion animation. Each animated piece, either character or background, is "deformable"—made of a malleable substance, usually clay.

Students will learn the basics of stop-motion animation in this project-based workshop. Groups design their own clay characters. Students engage in each step of the process, from developing a story concept, to sculpting clay characters.

The clay animation workshop develops literacy and math skills through storytelling and sequencing, and emphasizes creativity, communication, patience and collaboration. The student will derive great satisfaction watching the materials be transformed while learning basic sculpting methods. Multiple materials and techniques are introduced to inspire interest and creativity.
