This workshop will focus on collective song writing through the mediums of slam poetry and spoken word. Students will learn about song structure, the fundamentals of lyric writing using rhyme, and artistic expression through fun activities like interactive spoken word games and a slam poetry “open mic.” Though not required, students will have the opportunity to perform in front of the group, either individually or with others. Media equipment will also be available for those interested in recording audio or video footage.
Featured Artist: Jason Graham is a poet, painter, lead singer of the group Mosley Wotta, former slam poetry champion in the US, and part of the Art Ambassadors, a program dedicated to engaging youth and communities through interactive music and art workshops across the globe. He is a natural performer, full of energy, and very motivational. He has performed side by side with Ice-cube, Tricky, Saul Williams, Talib Kweli, Buddy Wakefield, Blackalicious, Indigo Girls, Mark Cohen, Los Lonely Boys, among many other.
This workshop is free of charge and suitable for teenagers ages 13-18 years old.
