Maraya Art Centre, Sharjah’s innovative contemporary visual arts hub, in conjunction with Mobipix, an inventive movement that promotes creative mobile and digital photography, will host an assortment of first-rate photography workshops for adults, starting on 17 February 2015, over the next three months.

Presenting the series of workshops is the same dream team that organised the highly successful #sharjah1000 campaign, a 2014 community outreach initiative conceived by Reem Saeed, passionate social photographer and founder of MobipixUAE. The #sharjah1000 movement challenged social media users to post photographs of picturesque Sharjah on Instagram over the period of one month, in which seventy participants took part of the challenge, reaching their goal of 1000.

The Conceptual Photography Workshop will be taught by the talented Emirati artist and photographer, Aysha Khalifa. A fascinating form of photography that illustrates an idea, Conceptual Photography is a staged style of captivating image capture derived from the late 1960’s art movement, Conceptual Art. In this theoretical as well as practical indoor class, participants will be familiarised with the artform through master photographers’ presentations, and also be shown how to construct a frame around their own ideas, to be artistically staged and showcased to an audience.
