Sharjah’s innovative contemporary visual arts hub, Maraya Art Centre, in collaboration with Mobipix, an inventive movement that promotes creative digital and mobile photography, will initiate a range of state-of-the-art photography workshops for adults, starting on 17 February 2015, over the next three months.

Presenting the series of workshops is the same dream team that organised the highly successful #sharjah1000 campaign, a 2014 community outreach initiative by MobipixUAE. The #sharjah1000 movement challenged social media users to post photographs of picturesque Sharjah on Instagram over the period of one month, in which seventy participants took part of the challenge, reaching their goal of 1000.

The Street Photography Workshop is an exciting outdoor class and will be conducted by Reem Saeed, founder of MobipixUAE, social activist, and passionate photographer. Participants will be taken on an enlightening photowalk (the ‘act of walking with for the main purpose of taking pictures of things that the photographer may find interesting’), and encouraged to capture street moments on their cameras from a personal perspective.

The objective of this exercise is to shoot contemporary, unposed, unstaged, and spontaneous moments in public domain - in this case, on the street. The workshop will also orient students on how to prepare their cameras on the necessary settings for perfect speedy capture.

Level: Beginner/ Intermediate
