This talk will uncover the important and decisive contribution that Ibn al Haytham, one of the greatest Islamic scientists, made to the development of Renaissance art in Europe. Coming from his life story and achievements, it will chart the transition of his scientific legacy from the Islamic world to Europe and the way in which it actively influenced pioneering artists like Leonardo da Vinci in developing new ways of seeing – most crucially the science of perspective – and capturing the world around them.
