The participants will learn how to write a story adapted from their personal daily life situations, transforming it into expressive drawings by using puppet theater language and later on building the Wonder Box. Wonder box considers part of Arab puppet and storytelling culture.The workshop will use a documentary theatre approach to reach the participants. The goal is to gather images, texts, memories that can bring to life the stories of participants. The wonder box will not serve only for giving artistic tools for participants but also to encourage visual storytelling in attractive way. At the end of the workshop, each participant will experience performing for a small audience consisting of 3 spectators. This will create an intimate special experience for audience.
Age range: 15+ years old.
RekaDeak is a Master of Directing in Contemporary Theatre from the Art University- Marosvásárhely – Romania. She studied stage design for Alternative and Puppet Theatre at the Academy of Performing Arts in Czech Republic. She is working as a puppeteer since 2006 at the Ariel- Children and Youth Theatre. Founder and CEO of Babu Association in Romania. Babu supports the work of the puppeteers since 2012.Reka had many experiences in working with children and adults and worked as stage and puppet designer in Europe and Arab countries. She will be leading the wonder box making workshop.
Husam Abed is a puppet master and an experienced children and youth worker who finished his Master of directing for Alternative and Puppet Theatre at the prestigious Academy of performing arts (DAMU) in Czech Republic. He is a founder of Dafa puppet Theatre in Jordan and Czech Republic, which serves as a platform for teaching the new techniques of puppet theatre and searching for the development of the puppet theatre scene in Arab world. He produced many puppet performances through workshops with children and youth. Husam developed his own way of mixing storytelling with contemporary puppet theatre and performed in many festivals in Europe and Arab countries. Member founder of Flying Freedom Festival in Czech Republic, member founder of Amman Theatre Lab. and member of UNIMA – Union Internationale de la Marionette - France. He will be leading the storytelling techniques workshop.
Macadi Nahhas’s puppetry workshops and performances are in collaboration with Maqam Productions.
